R.E.S.T.O.R.E Worldwide Partners with Brogya Foundation for a Landmark 14th Year of Offering Free Reconstructive Surgeries in Ghana

Ghana, 8th Nov 2024 – Renowned Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Michael K. Obeng, and his R.E.S.T.O.R.E (Restoring Emotional Stability Through Outstanding Reconstructive Efforts) team are once again making their way to Ghana for an extraordinary humanitarian medical mission. From the 1st to the 11th of November 2024, this dedicated team of twenty healthcare professionals will provide free reconstructive surgeries to over 100 patients in Ghana, continuing a legacy that has transformed lives across the globe.

This marks the 14th consecutive year that Dr. Obeng and the R.E.S.T.O.R.E team have embarked on such a humanitarian endeavour. Over the years, R.E.S.T.O.R.E has brought hope and healing to thousands, performing nearly 2,000 surgeries across three continents, including countries such as Guatemala, Laos, Mexico, Nigeria and Gabon. The monetary value of these surgeries exceeds an astounding $100 million USD, but the true impact is measured in the lives changed and the communities restored.

Dr. Obeng, originally from Ghana, is passionate about giving back to his homeland and communities worldwide. "This medical mission is a testament to the power of compassion, skill and dedication," Dr. Obeng commented. “Every year, we witness the profound impact that reconstructive surgery has on the lives of our patients. For many, it is not just about healing physical scars, but also about restoring their dignity, confidence and hope for a brighter future.”

This year’s medical mission is supported by an exceptional team of volunteers hailing from five different countries and three continents. Among them is Dr. Mehmet Atila, a German celebrity plastic surgeon known for his work with European stars, who will be joining the team for the sixth time. Other notable volunteers include Dawn Sutherland, a former Xerox Executive and current Director of International Relations for R.E.S.T.O.R.E; Dr. Barry Freeman, Chief of Anaesthesia Services at MiKO Plastic Surgery in Beverly Hills; and Dr. Paa-Ekow Hoyte-Williams, Chief of Plastic Surgery at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi, Ghana.

This year's humanitarian mission is made possible through the generous support of Nana Bediako Brogya Sarpong the Dompiahene of Agogo Traditional Area, through the Brogya Foundation. The surgeries will be conducted at The Presbyterian Hospital under the auspices of Nana Bediako Brogya Sarpong, ensuring that the mission reaches those in greatest need.

The Brogya Foundation is a dedicated non-governmental organization committed to improving the lives of children from disadvantaged backgrounds, with a special focus on those who have lost their mothers due to childbirth complications. Driven by a mission to provide comprehensive support—social, emotional, physical, and financial—the foundation aims to uplift orphans and underprivileged children, ensuring they have access to the resources they need to thrive.

Reflecting on the partnership, Nana Bediako Brogya Sarpong commented: “We are honoured to collaborate with Dr. Obeng and the R.E.S.T.O.R.E team once again. This mission embodies the spirit of compassion and service that aligns with the Brogya Foundation’s values. Together, we are not just providing surgeries; we are restoring hope, dignity, and futures for those in need. It is a privilege to play a role in making such a profound difference in the lives of our people.”

Dr. Obeng shared similar sentiments: “Returning to Ghana each year is deeply personal for me. It’s where my journey began, and it is incredibly fulfilling to use my skills to give back to my people. We are grateful to Nana Bediako Brogya Sarpong and the Brogya Foundation for making this medical mission possible, and we look forward to continuing our work to restore lives, one surgery at a time.”

R.E.S.T.O.R.E Worldwide has set the benchmark for medical missions, combining world-class medical expertise with a heart for humanity. As they prepare for this latest mission in Ghana, Dr. Obeng and his team are ready to bring hope, healing and a renewed sense of self to those who need it most.
